Pilates Class Sheffield

Pilates

Pilates is a class we regularly host at TFC. It is a low impact exercise with controlled movements, which help to enhance your balance, posture, core strength, mobility, flexibility and even mood. It focuses on the smaller and intrinsic muscles that support your structure and enhance your overall health. Pilates is an integrative form of exercise as it incorporates full body strength as well as providing a focus on breath control and the mind-body connection. It is especially worth mentioning the significant impact Pilates can have on your core. It is one of the best ways to target this area. Also, pilates is great for helping people with lower back pain.

Some examples of Pilates exercises are:

The Pelvic Curl: Is commonly used in the warm up in support of the spine and abdominal muscles. It requires you to lie on your back, engage your abs to create a pelvic tit and then curl your tailbone upwards to the point of your body being in a straight line between both your knees and shoulder blades.

The Hundred: This exercise is great for targeting the abdominals. It requires you to lay on the mat, raise your legs diagonally, lift your shoulders and head off the mat. Then with straight arms out in front of you, move them in an upwards and downwards motion by the side of your body.

Pilates and Yoga are commonly mistaken for the same exercise as they both have many similarities, however there is one significant difference between the exercises. Yoga typically entails holding a certain position and Pilates challenges your core at the same time as holding a position by moving your arms and/or legs. Fortunately, Pilates is an exercise, which is for everyone. No matter what age or level of fitness you are currently at, you can get involved. During the Pilates classes, the instructor will go through a range of movements with you and will correct form where needed.
